Atlas Mountains Trek

The Atlas Mountains form the dramatic backbone of Morocco, rising to over 4,000 meters and creating a natural barrier between the fertile coastal plains and the Sahara Desert beyond. This full-day trek takes you into the heart of these magnificent mountains, where traditional Berber culture has remained virtually unchanged for centuries.

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from the coast, climbing through ever-changing landscapes as you ascend into the High Atlas. The journey itself is spectacular, with vistas of deep valleys, terraced hillsides, and snow-capped peaks that grow more impressive with every kilometer.

Arriving in the Ourika Valley, one of the most accessible and beautiful valleys of the Atlas, you'll begin your guided trek through an authentic Berber landscape. The trail follows ancient paths used by villagers for generations, passing through orchards of walnut, apple, and cherry trees, and crossing the Ourika River on traditional stone bridges.

The Berber villages you'll encounter are architectural marvels of adaptation—mud-brick houses clinging to steep hillsides, with flat roofs used for drying crops and social gatherings. Your guide will introduce you to local families, offering a genuine glimpse into mountain life and the legendary Berber hospitality.

Visit a traditional Berber home and learn about daily life in the mountains. You may have the opportunity to see women weaving carpets on traditional looms, a craft passed down through generations. Taste fresh mountain honey, argan oil, and amlou—a delicious local specialty made from almonds and argan oil.

The trek culminates at the Setti Fatma waterfalls, a series of seven cascades that tumble down the mountainside. The lower falls are easily accessible, while the more adventurous can climb to the upper falls for rewarding views. It's the perfect place to rest and absorb the natural beauty surrounding you.
